Membership

We’re a small group of enthusiastic pilots and we welcome all newcomers, whether as students learning to fly or qualified pilots looking to pursue their hobby. If you’re interested in finding out more about membership of our club and what that offers, then read on…

Club Events

We host a range of “Club Nights”, both on the ground and in the air; some on a monthly basis and others featuring as regular items in the club’s Annual Calendar. Ground-based evenings have included RAF Tornado pilots from nearby RAF Leuchars, local Fire & Ambulance Services plus talks on aspects of flying (e.g. Carb Icing, PFLs, IMC Rating). During the summer months (when we have more daylight) we might arrange brief trips along the Fife coast to the disused RNAS Station at Crail where approaching over the water for a landing on Runway 34 is always fun!

Regular “Annual” events in our calendar include a Treasure Hunt, Bonfire Night, a “Buddy Day” (see below) and a Christmas “Wings Dinner” at which we recognise the various flying successes from the year (e.g. First Solos, PPL Passes, etc.).

Buddy Day

We operate a “Buddy Scheme”, which is designed to provide students and PPLs alike with the opportunity to fly in different types of aircraft. As part of this, we hold an annual “Buddy Day” during which all the various aircraft owners take other members flying in their aircraft, so if you’re only used to flying a one particular type of aircraft, you might get the chance to fly in a Cessna 172, Socata TB9, TB10, Ximango Motor Glider or even a Tiger Moth!

Fly-Outs

We arrange periodic fly-out trips to various destinations at weekends. Clearly, these are dependent on the weather but places we’ve had on the list in the past include Plockton, Oban, Islay, Longside at Peterhead and Newtownards in Northern Ireland. We try to fit as many people into seats as available so these trips are not by any means restricted to those with their own aircraft!

Learning to Fly

Fife is a great place to learn to fly. You’re right on the edge of uncontrolled airspace so the initial experience isn’t that daunting but you’ve got Edinburgh Airport just 10 or so miles away providing plenty of opportunity to practise some of the more formal aspects of R/T Procedure, Zone Clearances, etc. Then once you’ve gained that all-important LAPL/PPL, you’ve got some of the best scenery in the UK to go flying around!
